Biography
After years of combining a successful career as Industrial Developer, business consultant, Senior Director of two international Consulting companies and owner of his own record company (Beriau International) with his passion as composer and musician (for over 25 years) and keyboardist of the Canadian Band QWAARN; the Canadian musician ROBERT BERIAU decided to release his own albums.
His debut release "Falling Back to Where I Began" (2005) presents us a skilled combination of Rock, Jazz and Ambient with a touch of PINK FLOYD, in a very well developed Symphonic structure, and was the determinant reason why we decided to include him as a Symphonic Prog band.
The second Beriau release "Selfishness: Source of War and Violence" (2008) implies a radical change, even when the Symphonic structure remains obvious for the listener, the album is much more aggressive, in some songs like "Agoraphobia" distorted vocals sound almost as growls, but after a closer listen, reminds me more of the distorted vocals STEVE HACKETT creates in the "Genesis Revisited track" Fountain of Salmacis.
Even when closer to Heavy Prog with Jazzy leanings, the original atmosphere, remains intact, and fits perfectly in the more eclectic and ambitious sound of modern Symphonic bands that come from USA with a more aggressive style.
We just hope he keeps releasing more albums, because the experience of listening his music was a very rewarding one, and it's always a pleasure to find musicians willing to keep the Prog spirit alive in this decade full of rappers and boys bands.
