Active on the music scene from a young age when he performed at family evenings, weddings and other gatherings, he would make a name for himself as an orchestra guy in the 60s. From 1963 to 1972, he was a drummer in various musical ensembles, including the Men-X, which he founded in 1968. When the group was dissolved, he took over the family business where he worked as a grocer and butcher, performing as a folklorist singer in his spare time.
By the mid-70s, he was recognized as a devotee of the choruses of yesteryear. Between his fanciful or cheerful songs (Pompons la bière, Le pet, La semaine bachique) and the reels he performs on the harmonica: La sauteuse, Le réel du pendu, Le réel d'Argenteuil, Le Quadrille de Rivière-du-Loup, the singer sometimes tackles more nostalgic tunes: Le cœur ne vieillit pas, Les immortelles, Rose des bois, Isabeau. Having opted for a full-time musical career, he soon expanded his territory. From 1983 to 1986, he stayed in the Miami area every winter. Holidaymakers and other snow birds from the north have the opportunity to find a little bit of home in a milder climate. One can imagine the change of scenery of the native Floridians when hearing him sing À St-Malo beau port de mer, Mon père m'y marie, Sur les bords du St-Laurent or a potpourri from Bolduc.
Back home, he took the road to festivals, which took him to the four corners of Quebec, the Maritimes and the Festival du Voyageur in Winnipeg. The man whom the media describe as indomitable is also pampered by country music fans for whom the folklorist adopts a most singular stage outfit, evoking more the notables of the far west than the herdsmen.
At the turn of the 90s, he joined the team of CFLS station in Lévis, which had become the voice of country music in the region. Five nights a week, his show La musique de chez nous reached tens of thousands of listeners for more than five years. Of course, there is no question of resting during the weekend! These allow him to perform his repertoire live, whether in an arena, a shopping mall or at the local brewery.
Indefatigable, I told you!
