listed in the book 'Canadian Records' by Andre Gibeault, but I cannot substantiate if they were Canadian. Larry McClurg - lead vocals, Norris Lytton - vocals, bass and sax, Ted Smith - percussion, Jack Bond - vocals, keyboard, John Vaughan - vocals, lead guitar.

Hello Robert.

Thank you for writing.
It seems like a simple question. But there is a small mystery associated
with the Mind Garage being a Canadian band or not.

The rumor that we are Canadian re-appears from time to time.
In late 1969 RCA built remodeled Studio B in New York. That is where famous
people like Elvis Presley recorded. The studio had been shut down, and when
remodeled, it was used only by the the Guess Who ( Canadian band) and the
Mind Garage and then shut down again. Seems odd doesn't it? The Mind Garage
retired from music in 1970 for personal reasons. At some point between then
and now the rumors started . Then albums from the Mind Garage started to
appear on webpage lists as Canadian. Our albums were in fact pressed and
distributed in Canada as well as other places. But then in the 80s and 90s
we started hearing about the Mind Garage in Canada. People would tell us
they had met so and so from Canada and he had been in the Mind Garage. Or a
passing acquaintance would mention they had been to concerts in Canada by
the Mind Garage. There is even a musician who pointed out on his web page
that he had been in the Mind Garage. And I believe he was from Canada also,
but try as I might I could not get any response from him or the webmaster. I
don't know if the website is still there or not, and it has been many years.
I don't remember his name off hand.
It might be mass hallucenation, wide spread misunderstanding, or maybe RCA,
because of the Guess Who connection with the Mind Garage, put a Canadian
Mind Garage band on the road in Canada in the 70s hoping the band would
become as big in Canada as the Guess Who were in the USA, since we were no
longer available. I don't think we have heard the last of the mysterious
Canadian Mind Garage, but as far as we know no other band with the name Mind
Garage has existed.

Although this MInd Garage band is not Canadian, it might be appropriate for
the Mind Garage to be in the Museum of Canadian Music since there is
definitely a Canadian connection, albeit mysterious, and since apparently
many Canadians believe we are a Canadian band, if for no other reason than
to clear up some of the mystery. If you feel it is fitting we would love to
be in the Museum of Canadian Music.

I would be interested to know your decision.
