Gordon Deppe was the lead singer and guitarist in The Spoons, a fairly popular new wave/synth-pop band throughout the first half of the 1980s. After that group broke up towards the end of the decade, Deppe worked as a producer, played with other bands and took part in a few Spoons reunion gigs here and there. These days, in addition to his other endeavors he's a programmer for Galaxie, "CBC's Continuous Music Network."
Deppe wrote and performed most of the music on Listen To The City, which according to this page was never released on VHS or DVD. I don't know what it was about, but one of the commenters on IMDB describes it thusly; "A man wakes up from a 20-year coma and teams up with a young musician and poet to fight corporate crime." Anyway, fellow Spoons Sandy Horne and Bob Preuss also appear on a few of the songs on this album, which was produced by Deppe, recorded at Sound Path Studios in Oakville, and consists almost entirely of (very '80s) synth and guitar-driven mood music. The relatively uptempo "Theme For A City" played over the opening credits, while the more ominous "Until Tomorrow" accompanied the closing credits. "Then As Now" is a bit of (rather woodenly read) speechifying that I've included here mainly because of its somewhat eerie parallels to certain current events ("Many will compare it with the Great Depression. Bank failures, rampant inflation, fortunes lost overnight..."), and "A New World" is a companion piece to "Theme For A City."
