Origin: Meat Cove, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, 🇨🇦
The first album by The Dry Heeves to be officially released outside Cape Breton Island. With its blend of hardcore punk, industrial noise, pop and avant-garde experimentalism, Looking Beyond the Obvious was seminal in solidifying the eccentricities and absurdities of the group's approach to music.
The album peaked at #2 on the CKDU-FM charts in 1985 and remained in their charts for months. CBC-FM’s Nightlines also aired portions of it. As a side note, the industrial piece ‘Acid Rain’ was aired in Japan on NHK, and the anti-war techno pop song ‘4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse’ became a hit in Germany and was even chosen as the theme song for a German state radio programme. What was even more surprising is that we never sent the album anywhere overseas. Who could ask for anything more!
