Merrick Jarrett began his musical career as a singer of cowboy songs on radio stations in the fifties. He had his own folk music program on CKEY in Toronto, and performed regularly on the CBC on Edith Fowke’s folk music program. He was a performer at the first Mariposa Folk Festival and has shared many festival stages with names such as Gordon Lightfoot, Ian and Sylvia, The Weavers and Joan Baez.
While working as a book salesman and, later, for the Kitchener Public Library, he traveled across Canada performing concerts for children. He taught ballad and traditional folk music courses at Conrad Grebel College (Unversity of Waterloo) for 17 years, touching the lives of thousands of students. His contribution to the folk music world in Canada has been enormous and deserves recognition.
