About This Title

Mettle was a post-punk/new wave band from London, Ontario, active during the early 1980s. The lineup included Robert Brent on guitar and mini-moog, Gerry Collins on guitar, Chris Jaco on bass and backing vocals, and Steve Peraic on vocals and mini-moog. Notably, Robert Brent also played guitar for The Demics, another prominent band from London.

In 1983, Mettle released a self-titled LP, pressing only 500 copies, each accompanied by a photo insert. Their sound drew comparisons to contemporaries like Breeding Ground, Ceramic Hello, and Kinetic Ideals, blending dissonant art rock with warmer, tuneful elements. Tracks such as "The Second Person" and "Evening Ocean" exemplify this fusion, featuring tingly, clangy minor chords interlocking seamlessly with subtle yet bouncy bass lines.

Following Mettle's disbandment, bassist Chris Jaco continued his musical journey with "Dogwater," a band from Ontario's snowbelt region. Dogwater is described as an up-and-coming local hard rock/pop/punk band that does things their own way, including self-promotion.

Despite their limited discography, Mettle's contribution to the Canadian post-punk scene remains noteworthy, reflecting the vibrant underground music culture of Ontario during that era.
