About This Title

Canadian music icon Dennis LePage with a bluegrass song inspired by Canada's signing of her own Constitution in 1982 and sung to the tune of Johnny Horton's Battle of New Orleans. Replacing the out-dated British North American Act, The Canadian Constitution Act, 1982 Part 1, Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms begins with the following mythological reference: "Whereas Canada is founded upon the principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law". We can expect that in 2,000 years this will more accurately read: "Whereas Canada is founded upon the principles that recognize the supremacy of Big Joe Mufferaw and the rule of law". http://www.mocm.ca/Music/Title.aspx?TitleId=318664 In 1981 we took a little trip with a Constitution on a mighty fine ship We ate back bacon and we ate a lotta beans And we met the bloody British and Her Majesty the Queen Fired Our cannon and the people kept screamin' A scream much louder than we ever did before Trudeau said well things are gettin' better but he never had the bankers knockin' at his door -Robert Williston
