About This Title

The River City Band was active in Powell River from 1977 to 1980. In 1979, the group recorded their only single "The Powell River Song" and "Waitin’ For The Ferry", both written by George Campbell (Ron and Gord’s dad), who also financed the recording. These songs were recorded at Vancouver’s Psi Chord studio, engineered by the legendary Robin Spurgeon. Bass player Dennis Fox was also hired for this session. Ron Campbell played piano on Waitin’ For The Ferry, and banjo and harmonica on The Powell River Song, and Ron Irving played lap steel on The Powell River Song. Personnel brothers Ron and Gord Campbell on piano/lead vocals and drums/vocals, respectively; and Mike Kennedy on guitar/vocals. Today, Ron Campbell is still a working musician in Powell River. Ron often plays with Dennis Fox (they’re in 3 different bands together!), also occasionally still plays with Ron Irving and with Mike Kennedy. Ron sings, writes, and plays keyboards, guitar, bass, drums, and harmonica. He has released 4 full-length CDs: A Skinny Old White Man Sings The Blues (1999) http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/roncampbell3 Pure Blues Guy (2001) http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/roncampbell2 Live Plus One (2004) http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/roncampbell Bust Out (2010) http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/roncampbell4
