Brian Bickerton had already been a veteran entertainer in the Alberta music scene as a singer in various popular Alberta bands. However, by the time he was introduced to Heart Records, he was a Lethbridge realtor; part-time songwriter. The label (as a publisher) was more interested in Brian's songwriting, but in music publishing, the record was a way of achieving airplay, in essence 'proving' the song. Waiting For Me was produced in Vancouver with Ted Alexander handling the arrangements (Ted would become an integral part of Heart Records' productions as 'arranger extraordinaire').
It was hoped that this record would 'crossover'; become popular on most playlists of the day. But this record, the label's fourth release, received only mediocre airplay on Canadian adult contemporary stations, fairing better on country music playlists.
