Obituary Overview
Cherished Memories
Kim Cote of Calgary, beloved husband of Linda Cote, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on May 13, 2020 at the age of 67 years. Kim will be lovingly remembered by Linda, his brother Les and sister-in-law Carmen, his stepson Bob Gardiner and his sisters-in-law Lana Thompson and Shannon Strain.

Music was the driving force in Kim's life since his youth, where he played various instruments in the Jericho Hills School for the Blind (Vancouver) as well as the St. Francis High School Stage Band in Calgary, where he was the first blind student in Alberta to be integrated into a "regular" high school. While at St. Francis, Kim teamed up with several friends to form Brass Incorporated, a Tijuana Brass tribute band.

Following high school, Kim sang and played in a wide variety of bands, including R&B specialists The Soul Men and Lickin' Stick, a highly successful Calgary-based rock band. During the mid-1970s, Kim toured Canada and the USA with Vegas show band Dick Caldwell & The Celebrities.

In addition to being a successful “single act” for most of his adult life, Kim performed as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist in many other duos and bands including Tunesmith, Cody, Perfect Pitch, The Jacklyn Sparrow Band and most recently the Boomer Dance Party Band.

Kim was also a prolific songwriter, both solo and in collaboration with fellow Dick Caldwell & The Celebrities alumni Dean Clark Hall. He also released several albums and singles, and continued to write and perform original material until his passing.

Kim touched the lives of all those he met, whether it be by taking ANY request that came his way or amusing with his own English “dialect” – if he called you a Firpo, you knew you were a friend.

At Kim’s request, no funeral services were held. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date, COVID-19 permitting.
